A Sesame Tofu Snack That Can Be Served for Afternoon Tea

This is a tofu snack perfect for an afternoon teatime treat—crisp and golden on the outside, rich with the aroma of sesame, and soft and creamy like cheese on the inside.

Different types of tofu bring unique textures: silken tofu offers an ice-cream-like smoothness, firm tofu has a creamy, cheese-like richness, and frozen tofu brings an airy, chewy bite…

We recently found a traditional Chinese tofu in the supermarket known as tóujiāng guōbiān dòufu—a “first-press tofu” made directly from the initial thick soy milk without dilution. It’s rich in protein and deeply fragrant, with a creamy delicate texture thanks to its low moisture and dense soy content, especially fitting for a summer afternoon. So we’d love to share first —

🥢 Crispy Sesame Tofu with a Buttery Finish

To prepare: slice the tofu into thin pieces. Lightly beat egg whites with a pinch of salt and pepper, and dip tofu slices into the mixture. Then coat each slice with sesame seeds.

Brush a shallow layer of oil in a frying pan. Heat over medium fire.

Gently place the sesame-coated tofu slices in the pan. Fry until golden and crisp on the outside.

These sesame tofu bites are delicious on their own, but also pair beautifully with savory dips like sesame paste, peanut butter, or chili oil—or with sweet jams.

Low in carbs, high in protein, and full of flavor, they make the perfect energy-boosting tea snack.
